Eike König is a world-renowned graphic designer, founder and creative director of the Berlin creative collective HORT. Eike's artistic work is celebrated for his conceptual, emotional, visual – sometimes playful, but always deliberate – approach to social issues. So it fits in perfectly with our current campaign, which is all about showing attitude and being strong for the future. While Eike signs and packs up one of his latest works in his light-flooded Berlin studio, he explains why language fascinates him and is a central element of his work. Since language is used as a political instrument, can establish ideologies and define boundaries, language is "the means of power in itself"
Eike takes up topics such as digitalisation, globalisation and consumption by reducing them to buzzwords, opening up a broad scope of interpretation. For him, irony is "a good lever" for opening doors. Eike's works mostly consist of striking typography: large, painted letters and words on a clear background. Now he has defined a set of rules for this purpose: he sticks to the same font and always uses the same size and format. For our Autumn/Winter 2020 campaign, we worked with the themes "Future" and "Take a stance". DRYKORN is fascinated by the positive energy and passionate fury that young people demonstrate when supporting their own future. Not aggressive and not violent, but pacifist, level-headed and with a deliberate position. The central inspiration for the campaign was the vision of modern, open-minded, new-age hippies who have thought things through and can show a stance of creative expression.
Eike has incorporated this spirit into his graphics, which have been integrated into the campaign in the form of banners, posters and protest signs. In the current, climate-neutral image production, the participants "protest" with these statements on behalf of the positive design of the future.
