DRYKORN IS STILL NOT SUSTAINABLE
(ENOUGH)

BUT WE ACT RESPONSIBLY. AND WE_MIND.

It's not our intention to greenwash our actions. We also don´t claim to be 100% sustainable.

Our sustainability goals are too ambitious to call them achieved. But we do our best to be more sustainable every day. Being mindful about people and planet is part of our core values. We are aware that all our actions have an impact on the planet. That’s why we’ve made big and small changes over the years to reduce our footprint.

We are proud to share what we have achieved so far and what’s next on our list.  On this blog we want to keep you informed on our progress, tell some stories and share some insights about sustainability in fashion.

PEOPLE
Beautiful people for DRYKORN

Friends & Partners

Our styles are not brought to life by machines, but by people. They are designed, made and worn by people. People like Anita, sample tailoress at DRYKORN for over 20 years. We are committed to further reduce the impact that manufacturing our clothes has on the environment. To make sure this happens, we're working with partners who treat their workers with respect and share our values.

Our Code of Conduct applies to all our manufacturers - without exception. We visit our production sites on a regular basis to get a first-hand impression and to strengthen cooperation on a personal level. In addition, all manufacturers are inspected by third-party audited1 to ensure compliance with demanded working conditions and initiate improvement actions. However, these visits are only snapshots. That is why we focus on building long-term relationships with our suppliers, to establish a transparent, open and trusting cooperation.

1 An audit is an on-site inspection. It is checked whether processes, requirements and guidelines are complied with in accordance with the Code of Conduct.

Production Countries

Since the company was founded, the focus of our fabric, trims as well as ready-made garment productions has been in Europe. Some of these fabric and trim partners have been with us for 25 years.  Nothing has changed to this day. For certain product groups we use the know-how of companies in Turkey, Tunisia and Asia. When selecting our suppliers, we focus not only on the high quality of our products, but also on resource-efficient production processes and short transport routes. 69% of all our garments are produced in Europe (including Turkey), 9% in North Africa (Tunisia) and 22% in Asia. No matter the country, all suppliers must meet the high social and environmental standards. Fair and humane working conditions are not self-evident erverywhere in the world, which is why we take advantage of our opportunities, for example by means of audits, to identify problems and initiate improvement actions.

Thanks to our long-standing relationships and far-reaching insights into the supply chain, we can reinforce our social standards and environmental measures in a concrete and direct manner.

PLANET
Less is more

Our packaging was not very beautiful

Of course, packaging is necessary. We need to ensure our products are clean and undamaged when they arrive at your doorstep. So, what to do, to make it better?

It’s all about using more sustainable materials, less plastic and reuse. By using thinner polybags (for hanging shipments) we keep our products safe and at the same time save 3.4 tons of plastic each year. Our ecommerce packaging is plastic-free, 100% recyclable, certified and can be used for returns.

Ticked off the bucket list:

_100% climate neutral shipping
_100% carbon offsetting of all flights. No domestic flights
_returns are not destroyed

Up next: carbon neutral HQ, further reduce the use of plastics, more multi-use packaging

PRODUCT
Materials for a sustainable future

New fibers for a better tomorrow

By producing garments there is always an impact on the environment - there is no way around that. After all you need precious resources to create any piece of clothing.

Decisions show who we really are. That’s why we are convinced a respectful use of the world’s resources is the right decision. Therefore, we use recycled wool, TENCEL™ by Lenzing and cotton sourced through the Better Cotton Initiative, to support sustainable cotton farming. We will continuously increase the sourcing of more sustainable fibres and will label our products accordingly to help you make a better choice.

Up next: 95% sustainable cotton by 2024 (organic cotton, Better Cotton, recycled cotton), more recycled materials

It's also about whats not in our products

Britney: Don’t you know that you’re toxic?

Hazardous substances are harmful (duh). To you, me, the environment and the planet. Therefore, our suppliers need to comply with the strict requirements of our Restricted Substances List and all applicable laws. The STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX is recognised as an industry standard and is also our benchmark. We regularly conduct random checks at various stages of the supply chain with accredited laboratories.

Environmental protection is as important to us as the safety of our products. Many of our suppliers have joined the requirements of the ZDHC MRSL. This list excludes the use of certain chemicals completely.

Be kind to every kind. Not just humankind.

We consciously speak out for animal welfare. Leather and lambskin are only used if they are a by-product from the food industry. In addition, all our clothing leather tanneries are socially and environmentally audited.

84% of all our woollen knitwear is made from non mulesed wool. Mulesing is a common practice to prevent flystrike in Australia. Skin folds around the breach of young sheep are removed. A cruel procedure without anaesthetics that we reject. Therefore, we will increase the proportion of non-mulesed wool every year till we reach 100%.

You won't find:

_REAL FUR
_REAL DOWN
_FEATHERS
_ANGORA
_MOHAIR
_MATERIALS FROM ENDANGERED OR THREATENED SPECIES

Up next: even more non-mulesed wool, more vegan leather

FUTURE

For a better future.

Over the year’s sustainability became a part of DRYKORN. It’s part of every decision we make. We firmly believe that there is always more we can do, and that keeps us motivated. Ultimately a more sustainable product is a better product.

WE ACT RESPONSIBLY.
WE_MIND.
